Time to take on unfinished business in the 2018 Florida legislative session
The Florida legislature will be back in Tallahassee in just a few weeks to begin the 2018 legislative session. In election years, the Florida legislature begins their 60-day session in January, instead of beginning in March in off-election years. Legislative committees will begin hearing bills starting in September and will hold six weeks of committee meetings (interim committee weeks) from September to December. Two bills, HB 1233 & SB 1728 – Genetically Engineered Foods, that would require the labeling of Genetically Engineered Foods in the State of Florida have been filed in both the House and Senate. The Senate bill has been referred to Agriculture, Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, & Appropriations. The House Bill is now headed for vote in the Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee.

These bills would require a search warrant to be issued in order for a law enforcement officer to seize and search through someone’s cell phone (or other portable electronic device.) Local Representative Ed Hooper, whom voted Nay on the Bill in the Economic Affairs Committee will vote again on the bill. Hooper received donations from ATS.
